Great Photo... However
WV Division of Culture and History should know that no PATTERSONS lived at this house. Instead, Henry PATTESON and family lived here. Henry PATTESON was the grandfather of WV Governor OKEY PATTESON. You would think our state would correctly record history and ensure the proper names were noted. The PATTESONS migrated from Buckingham and Appomattox counties. They were the same family that had the contract for stage coach routes from Richmond to Lynchburg and points west. They owned taverns along the way. Henry PATTESON (owner of the house depicted) was the son of James Patteson - a former Tavern owner in New Store, Buckingham County, and Lynchburg, VA. Check your archives and you will see Gov. Patteson was a key figure in establishing this land and the replica house as a state park. Please change the spelling the correct one: PATTESON |
