Description: Scotts Run, Monongalia County, 1930s. In 1928, the Presbyterian Church sent social worker Mary Behner to establish a mission program at Scotts Run, a nine-mile-long hollow that was home to nearly 10,000 people, many of them mining families. An old coal company building was converted into The Shack, a community center where children could attend Sunday School and other programs.
